Elena Lourenco received her B.F.A. from San Jose State University, CA, in 2002 and her M.F.A. in Sculpture from Arizona State University in 2007. As a post-graduate student, she studied abroad at Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. In her recent work, Lourenco explores the relationship between such things as cultural practice, social identity, the physical body and organic nature in sculptural installations that juxtapose imagery from created domestic life and the natural world, presenting situational narratives of vulnerability and endurance.
Elena Lourenco’s work has been exhibited in one-person and group exhibitions both Nationally and Internationally. She has recently been invited to present work at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale and the 2019 Venice Art Biennale. Enjoying sharing this studio experience and knowledge with students, Lourenco has taught Foundations and Sculpture at SUNY Buffalo, NY, University of Montana in Missoula, and is now excited to meet and work with the young, inspiring minds at Santa Ana College.
