Meet Your Instructor: Lisa Visco
Course Description: First half of a two-semester general chemistry sequence. Fundamental principles and concepts of chemistry including, but not limited to, atomic structure, quantum theory, periodic properties, stoichiometry, oxidation-reduction, molecular structure and bonding, gas laws, states of matter, solutions, and chemical kinetics. 16 Week Course (02/05/2018-06/03/2018). 5 Units. Class Hours: 48 Lecture, 96 Laboratory total. Transfer Credit: CSU, UC.
Textbook Information:
We will be using Chemistry: An Atoms-Focused Approach, 2nd edition by Gilbert et al. This textbook cover is shown below. The campus bookstore is selling a package which includes a loose-leaf copy of the book, the e-book and a solutions guide (priced at about $150).
Alternatively you can purchase access to the e-book at the publisher's website for $75.
We will not be using SmartWorks for this course.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to provide an oral explanation of chemical concepts using the appropriate scientific language with sufficient supporting evidence during exam, presentation and lab reports.
- Students will be able to provide a written explanation of chemical concepts using the appropriate scientific language and writing style with sufficient supporting evidence during exam, presentation and lab reports.
- Students will demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of course content during periodic exams and quizzes throughout the semester.
- Students will be able to generate, record, analyze and discuss experimental data while completing lab notebooks and reports.
