Course Description:  

This course is a comprehensive study of neurogenic communication disorders. Topics will include a holistic narrative of disorders such as aphasia, right hemisphere syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and dementia. It is a required course for the AA degree in the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) program.

Student Learning Objectives:  

  1. Students will learn about specific speech, language and hearing disorders that are experienced by adult and geriatric populations.
  2. Students will learn about treatment strategies that may be implemented with adults with an acquired communication disorder.
  3. Students will become aware of assessment tools that can be used to diagnose acquired communication disorders in adults.
