Course Description:
This course presents an overview of knowledge and skills needed to provide developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children. Students will examine the teacher's role in supporting development, fostering the joy of learning and creativity through the essential role of play. Content areas include language/literacy, social/emotional/sensory learning, art, music, math, science, health/safety, and motor development.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of CDEV 111B, student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of different philosophical approaches to teaching young children.
- Become familiar with important strategies and techniques for effective teaching.
- Become familiar with all curriculum areas and some guidelines on how these can be presented in such a way that developmental and cultural needs are met.
- Locate, assemble and organize resource tools for use in the workplace.
- Discuss key elements that support the value of play-based curriculum which provide for exploration, discovery and repetition.
