Meet Your Instructor: Carly W Dobson, MFA I have been teaching at SAC since 2008 and I have been teaching online since 2014. I was a student in the Dance Department here at SAC and I have my A.A. in Dance. I also received my B.A. in Art History from UCI and my M.F.A in Dance from Mills College. My choreography has been featured in the Santa Ana Dance Department concerts, the American College Dance Association, Mills College MFA concert and alumni showcase, and a variety of showcases and festivals. Personally I have performed in the SAC Dance concerts, UC Berkeley, American College Dance Association, Mills college, and variety of showcases and festivals. I was also a member of Proxemic Dance group which was a semi professional dance company in Southern California. I am also a certified Yoga and Pilates instructor.
In my free time I like to spend time with my husband and 2 dogs. I am enrolled in a program to become a certified Health and Wellness Coach which will be completed in 2018.
Course Description:
This class is designed to provide a basic overview of Dance from ancient times through early contemporary dance. We will primarily discuss the development of Ballet in Western Europe and the US as well as the creation of Modern Dance in the US. Dance forms such as Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop will also be covered. The practice of viewing dance and writing critically about it will be emphasized in regards to description, analysis, interpretation, and observation.
